Award-winning pianist, Yen Yu Chen, performs at 3 p.m., on Sunday, April 21, 2013, in Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts . The concert is part of the Quick Center's Young Artists Series and is presented in association with The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation . Admission is free and open to the public.

Yen Yu Chen was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1994 and won Second Prize at the Fifth New York International Piano Competition in June 2010 presented under the auspices of The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation. Since beginning to study piano at age six, Yen Yu has exhibited exceptional musical talent. She traveled to Austria in 2003 to study and perform in Graz. At only 10 years of age she was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a student of Eleanor Sokoloff, and is presently studying with Gary Graffman.

Ms. Chen has received numerous awards including First Prize in the Kawai Piano Competition, the Baroque Competition, the Steinbach Music Competition, the Mandarin Chinese Daily Piano Competition, the Vienna National Piano Competition, the Yamaha Piano Competition, the Seidof & Sons Piano Competition, the Victory Cup Competition, the Taipei Music Competition, and the National Music Competition sponsored by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. She has also performed solo recitals at many venues and events such as Gu-Ting Elementary School, Tamkang University, the Mandarin Daily News Hall, the Taoyuan Performance Hall, the National Concert Hall in Taiwan, and Carnegie Hall in New York.

Yen Yu Chen was awarded First Prize at the Albert Greenfield Competition in Philadelphia in 2007, the 2010 Grand Prize in the Rising Stars Concerto Competition, and performed with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra as well as the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. In 2011, Yen Yu, also known as Jenny, was invited to the Fourth Season of the Bravo Music Festival in Vail in order to make her debut as a member of the Young Professionals in Residence. She has also had the opportunity to perform in the Netherlands under the auspices of The Ninth International Franz Liszt Piano Competition, where she received the Henk de By Incentive Prize.

The pianist has taken a multitude of master classes from world-renowned musicians such as Jeremy Denk, Gary Graffman, Claude Frank, Seymour Lipkin, Susan Starr, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Robert Levin, Lars Vogt, Robert McDonald, Anne-Marie McDermott, HaeSun Paik, Ignat Solzhenitsyn, and Meng-Chieh Liu. In 2012, The Curtis Institute bestowed a high artistic honor on Ms. Chen, when she was selected for giving the most outstanding student performance of the year. At the age of eighteen, Yen Yu is now preparing to pursue her Master's Degree.

The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation, through its flagship program, The New York International Piano Competition, is committed to furthering the education, recognition and fostering of a new generation of talented young musicians, directly serving pianists ages 16-21.
